He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Bates and Edna Bates (Beard); and his father-in-law Roland Laferriere. He is survived by: his wife Lee Laferriere-Bates; his children, Richard C. Bates Jr., Noelle Bates and Gabrielle Stroud (Brandon); his grandsons, Aiden and Derek; his sister Linda Thorn (Bob); his niece Priscilla Gregory; his mother-in-law Doris Laferriere; his siblings-in-law, Michael and Sue Gougeon; and his nephews, Maxwell and Noah Gougeon.
