He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel D. Goodwin, Jr. and Nellie Goodwin (Rider); and his sister Janice Gray. He is survived by: his wife Charlene M. Goodwin (McCann); his children, Samuel D. Goodwin, IV and Denise Muldrew (Robert); his grandsons, Steven (Shayla), Daniel and Eric; his great grandchild Spencer; and his sisters, Joan Halla and Sandra Sparks.
