He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Ding" MacKenzie and Barbara MacKenzie (Gallant). He is survived by: his wife Deborah A. MacKenzie; his children, Marc MacKenzie (Lauren) and Krista MacKenzie; his sister Betty MacKenzie (Jim Luckett); and his granddaughter Olivia.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's honor can be made to the Ipswich Little League, 9 County Road, Ipswich, MA 01938.
