He was predeceased by: his parents, Luis Renau and Elsie Renau; and his brother Luis. He is survived by: his wife Caroline; his children, Oliver (Elise), Lucy, Sally (Joey Johnson) and Tom (Eglantine); his grandchildren, Desmond, Ysabel and Sam; his cousin Juan (Eva) of Barcelona Spain; and his sisters-in-law, Cathy of London, UK and Susan.
His capacity for innovation and contribution to Varian is underscored by the 65 patents, including the fundamental design patents on Varian's most successful products, leading to many thousands of systems shipped and many billions of dollars in sales.
