He was predeceased by: his siblings, John Arend and Phyllis Evans. He is survived by: his spouse Van Arend (Tsacoyeanes); his child Torben Arend (Liza); his grandchild Gillian Arend; and his siblings, Annette Gilmore, Eleanor Bump (George) and Gary Arend. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the above named church or to Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands, 30 Shipyard Drive, #202, Hingham, MA 02043.
