He was predeceased by: his parents, John Cowie and Rose Cowie (Baldaro); his wife Joan F. Cowie (Shaughnessy); his grandson Brian Sandlin; his son-in-law Walter Nelson; his siblings, John Cowie, Kenneth Cowie (late Helen), Stella Demmons (late Robert) and Muriel; and his caregiver William.

He is survived by: his daughters, Kathleen A. Nelson of Waltham, Jean M. Moroso of Marlboro, Ellen R. Cowie of Waltham, Laura J. Bourgeois (Ted) of Middletown and Roberta J. Sandlin (Brian) of Falmouth; his grandchildren, Colleen Wallace (Jeff), Robert Lyons (Sarah), Kevin Lyons (Jennifer), Melissa Theroux (Matthew), Matthew Moroso (Taylor), Nicole Nadeau (Jeremy), Regina Rivard (Mark), Amy Lyons, Jaclyn Onofaro, Kelly Johnson (Adam), Paul Bourgeois (Katie), Stephanie Bourgeois (Justin), Elizabeth Mendicina (Jon), Christopher Sandlin and Sean Sandlin; and his in-laws, Ann Chicco (Guy) of Waltham, Maryellen Jasinski (Tim) of Norwood, Thomas Shaughnessy (Joanne) of Billerica and Jack Shaughnessy (late Marie) of Waltham. He is also survived by twenty-five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews.
