He was predeceased by: his siblings, Robert "Sonny" Mattson, Silvia Lavorante and Dennis Mattson. He is survived by: his spouse Jean A. Mattson (Grasso) of Walpole; his children, Richard E. Mattson Jr. (Janet) of Wrentham, Barbara J. Pepicelli (Tony) of Attleboro, Jeffery A. Mattson (Denise) of Taunton and Jeanne Destito (Frank) of Walpole; and his sister Janice Mattson of Foxboro. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home (1248 Washington St, Norwood, MA 02062). A prayer was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the Kraw Kornack Funeral Home (1248 Washington St, Norwood, MA 02062).
