He was predeceased by: his wife Corinne Portalla (Santarpio); his son Louis Portalla; and his siblings, Francis Donald Portalla, Mary Stone, Louise Potenza, Joseph Louis Portalla and Louis Joseph Portalla Jr. (Lorraine).

He is survived by: his children, Edward Portalla, Vincent "Gigi" Marino, Donald F. Portalla Jr. (Joyce) and Kim Portalla (Gerard Tholen); and his siblings, William John Portalla (Dorothy), Edward Francis Portalla and Charlotte Frances Curley. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
