Mary Glorinda Grout Obituary
On Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, Mary Glorinda (Silva) (Camacho) Grout, 82, of Tyngsboro, MA left this earth to reunite with her beloved husband, Teddy, with whom she had celebrated 31 years of marriage before his passing in 1993.
Born April 18th, 1939, in Graciosa, in the Azores Islands of Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Luzia (Candida) Silva. At 16, she married Julio Camacho and moved to Massachusetts, where she worked at the Educator Biscuit Company. Widowed at 20 with an infant, it would be another three years before she married Ted Grout in 1962. Teddy built her forever home in Tyngsboro, where together they settled and had two more daughters. Mary possessed quiet strength, love, and sacrifice, all in service and devotion to her family. They opened their home to Mary's siblings and their families from Portugal, sponsoring them on their paths for a better life in America. She and her husband found them employment and their own homes.
Mary and Ted owned and operated the Century House and Motel in Hampton Beach for several years providing comfortable accommodations and friendship to all who stayed. She enjoyed the ocean and showing off her fishing and crabbing skills to her kids, who still think back and smile at how proud she was to catch the bigger fish or lure the most crabs from the rocks. She enjoyed weekend getaways to Laconia and traveling to Vermont to visit Teddy's family, who she loved as her own and remained close to even after Teddy passed. Mary delighted in family gatherings, weddings, and the joy of dancing.
Mary radiated with love, play, and joy when grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived. She entertained them by playing badminton or settling in for long matches of her favorite board game – Trouble. She truly relished her role as hostess and matriarch, and her home was the center of all holidays and family gatherings. Mary would answer the door in her apron and greet you with a kiss on each cheek as the scent of prime rib and Portuguese cooking drifted warmly through the house. Hugs and kisses and the slipping of a few dollars into a child's pocket for the piggy bank was her signature move at the end of each visit.
Mary's home was where her heart was grounded. She enjoyed her daily routine of watching General Hospital and catching up on the latest lifetime and hallmark channel movies. She also loved a good comedy and would recount the story in great detail to anyone who arrived as she was watching one.
She fulfilled her vision of success, filling her home with family, food, comfort, and love. Our family will never forget the sacrifices she made to follow her dreams, and we endeavor to carry that in our hearts forever.
Mary is survived by daughters Gladys Garneau and her husband Donald of Tyngsboro, Maria Simon and her husband Tom of Weare, NH, and Caroline Osborne and her husband Howard – with whom she shared her home in Tyngsboro. Her grandchildren- Jennifer Arseneault and her husband Scott, Amy Frazier and her husband Ryan, Jason Garneau, Stephanie Duford and husband Josh, and Sabrina Osborne. Her great-grandchildren – Braden, Griffin, Austin, Dylan, and Avery. She is survived by her sister Lucilia Silva and her husband John, and her sisters-in-law Odete Silva, Alcinda Silva, Lionilde Silva, Glorinda Silva, and Priscilla Grout, close niece Paulette Grout as well as many more nieces, nephews and Figueira family members.
She was the sister of the late Antonio Silva, Isalino Silva, Vital Silva, Eurico Silva, Januario Silva, Manuel Silva, and step mother of the late Wilhelmina "Della" Figueira.
