He was predeceased by: his wife Maria "Connie" Couto Duarte; his parents, Joao Duarte Cabral and Maria Trindade Resendes Duarte; and his sibling Duarte Cabral. He is survived by: his children, Maria Helena Duarte Santarpia (Jack) of Taunton, John Duarte of Taunton and Connie Duarte Gouveia of Dartmouth; his grandchildren, Melissa Cavaco, Michael Moniz, David Morris, John Duarte, Cody Duarte, Courtney Gouveia, Nathan Duarte, Emily Santarpia, Kimberly Santarpia, Jonathan Duarte and Serenity Duarte; his great grandchildren, Ayden Morris, Branden Morris, Zane Pustelnikas, Isabella Duarte, Audriana Cavaco and Camden Morris; and his siblings, Gabriella Rebelo of Taunton, Adolf Duarte of Lennox, GA, Eddy Cabral, Fatima Duarte of Faial and Azores. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
