He was predeceased by: his parents, George L. Abbott and Annie Laurie Abbott (Wells); his son Richard J. Jr.; and his brothers, George W. Abbott (Dorothy) and Robert M. Abbott.

He is survived by: his children, Deborah (Henry Holmgren) of Worcester, MA., Scott of Vero Beach, FL. and Lynne Maynard Francolini of Millbury, MA.; his significant other Helen Spets; and his brothers-in-law, Paul Johnson and Dave Johnson (Julie). He is also survived by nieces & nephews, innumerable dear friends.
