He was predeceased by: his mother Anna Kleinman Schwartz; his son Peter; and his siblings, Ruth Wolozin and Robert "Ted" Schwartz. He is survived by: his father Louis Benjamin Schwartz; his wife Patricia Webber Schwartz of Stockbridge, MA; his children, Gregory (Nancy) of Amherst, MA, Stephen (Annie O'Connor) of Wappingers Falls, NY and Nora Schwartz-Martin; and his nephew Robert Schwartz of Los Angeles, CA.. He is also survived by grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His contributions to the field also include the many family members that have followed his footsteps into the profession.
