Frank G. Ragusa Obituary

Frank G. Ragusa, 84, of South Hamilton, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. He was the husband of Cecelia (DeAbreu) Ragusa, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

He was born in Gloucester on February 2, 1940, son of the late Anthony and Nina (Palazolla) Ragusa.

Frank was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1958. He went on to join the United States Coast Guard in 1961. Upon entering the coast guard, he was assigned to the ship The General Greene out of Gloucester. During his tour of duty, Frank was sent to Cuba amid the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1963, The General Green was ordered to assist two ships along with other ships that collided in Buzzard's Bay. The ship was the first to arrive and the crew was instrumental in rescuing 62 men. In the years that followed, the crew continued to rescue many fishermen because of sinkings or engine failure. When he left the coast guard in 1965, he attained the rank of Third-Class Boatswain's Mate.

After leaving the coast guard, Frank went on to work for the Gloucester School Department. During his time, he aspired to be Senior Building Custodian. When he left his position with the Gloucester School Department, Frank then went to work at Beverly Hospital, as an assistant in preparing the operating rooms. After he retired from his work, Frank was then able to enjoy his retirement by doing work around his yard, home and his many visits to Key West.

In addition to his wife Cecelia, Frank is survived by his two sons, Frank M. Ragusa and his fiancé 'Robin Jones and Robert A. Ragusa; grandchildren, Alexandra, Katherine and Olivia; nieces and cousins. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Frank was predeceased by his sister, Frances Scola.

A private graveside service will be held.
