He was predeceased by: his former wife Marguerite C. Knipe (Stolpe); his son Steven P. Knipe; his parents, John E. Knipe and Marie G. Knipe (Judson); and his siblings, Edgar, Margie, June, Eleanor and Betty.

He is survived by: his children, John F. Knipe, Jr. (Cindy) of Shrewsbury, Cathi O'Toole of Tampa, FL, Donna Rhaney (Lorin) of Ruther Glen, VA, Robert Knipe of Tampa, FL, Susan Kelley (Steven) of Merrimack, NH and Margie Hertz (Ron Weaver) of Portland, OR; and his wife Marge. He is also survived by friends for being a wonderful father and grandfather, a caring friend.
