He was predeceased by: his mother Kathleen Carlson (Landry); his daughter Megan C. Ritter (De'Von) of Fitchburg; his brother Dana Carlson; and his nieces, Dena Smith and Denise Carlson of Maine.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret "Peggy" J. Carlson (Traquair) of Shirley; his son Justin T. Carlson (Tanya) of Fitchburg; his father Robert Carlson of Ayer; his sister Diana Gendron (Mickey) of Shirley; his nephew Kyle Bouchey (Jessica); his great-nephew Logan of Fitchburg; and his grandchildren, Alexis, Kylen, George, Jaliyah and James.

“In loving memory of Mark S. Carlson, I knew Mark from when i was a kid i used to sit in my families store and decorate the bags. He always made a point to ask me how I’m doing. He taught me a lot about sports history. He always talked about his Peg and his children with glowing pride. He would come in with his grandchildren and buy them candy, he was always patient and kind to them. I felt like he was a member of our family too, and he will always be loved and missed by my family.”
