He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Topping and Della Topping (Dickinson) of Falls Village, CT.; his stepchildren, Tammy Clark (Robert), Leon Stetson (Carrie) and David Stetson (Kelly); his sister Virginia "Ginny" Redlund; his wife Gloria Topping (Pease); and his stepson Steven Michael Stetson. He was also cherished by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held on Friday, April 11th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home (426 Main St, Great Barrington, MA 01230).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the local V.F.W, American Legion Post Post 340, or his great-granddaughter's VFW Eagle Scout project, which will include a plaque honoring John.
