It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Stephen J. Newman of Seekonk, Massachusetts, born in Providence, Rhode Island, who passed away on August 7, 2024, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Newman and Edith Newman (Shapiro); and his brother Maurice "Corky" Newman. He is survived by: his wife Karen L. Newman (Gallup); his sons, Eric D. Newman (Roberta "Bobbi") of North Billerica, MA., Adam M. Newman (Lynn) of Pawtucket, RI. and Joshua T. Newman (Kate) of Somerset, MA.; his stepchildren, Patrick R. Whalen (Denise) of Fairfield, CT. and Meghan K. Whalen (Vannak Sao) of Seekonk, MA.; and his nieces, Lori and Jill.

“Sending my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, educators, countless students, & athletes whose lives were touched by Mr. Newman. He taught me everything I know about track. More importantly, he taught me things about myself; that I really can dig deeper when I think I have nothing left to give, that asking for help isn’t a weakness to ask. He tried REALLY hard to teach me that it is ok to just get in the car when someone realizes you are too stubborn to ask for help! He is a class act.”
