He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Burns and Catherine Burns (Holland). He is survived by: his wife Barbara Frederick; his children, James N. Burns of Seekonk and Catherine M. Burns; his son-in-law Professor Eric G. E. Zuelow; and his granddaughter Brigid "Bridie" Zuelow.
