He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert F. McAlpine and Janice McAlpine (Leary). He is survived by: his wife Margaret McAlpine (Donovan); his children, Jennifer D'Andrea (John) of Rockland, Katie LaFleur (Jason) of Scituate and Brian McAlpine (Julia) of Maine; and his siblings, David McAlpine (Jane) of Norton, Paul McAlpine of Marshfield, Mark McAlpine (Jodie) of Weymouth and Melissa Lucia (Keith) of San Francisco, CA.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
