With heavy hearts, we announce the death of David Del Porto (Scituate, Massachusetts), born in Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on January 21, 2020 at the age of 78. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph Del Porto and Helen Del Porto (Peterson); his wife Elva; his children, Jeff, Jason (Elizabeth), David, Betsy (Paul) and Susan; his sister Lisa Burn (Peter); and also, Brandon, Jackson, Luca, Eiche, Max, Lauren, Julian and Prudence.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Waypoint Adventures, who provide adventure-based programs for people with disabilities (http://www.waypointadventure.org), and the Appalachian Mountain Club (http://www.outdoors.org), which connects people to the freedom and exhilaration of the outdoors.

“The work of david is still a mystery to me, as i am greatly inspired but also quite mesmerized. A recent urge to connect with him grew greater, and now i regret not doing it. I actually felt i had lost my chance. I will hold him in my heart, as i continue to try to fathom how to continue his work. I went to his greenhouse in newton, ma, when i was a kid, and it is a gem in my memory. I have his book beside me. I wish i could just ask him “ what can i do?” my condolences. Melissa.”
