It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerald Thomas McCarthy of Salem, Massachusetts, who passed away on January 30, 2024, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia Marie McCarthy (O'Donnell); his parents, Francis J. McCarthy and Sara E. McCarthy (Abbott); and his siblings, Francis and John McCarthy.
He is survived by: his children, Virginia M. Blazo (Richard W. Jr) of Beverly and Gerald T. McCarthy Jr. of Florida; and his grandchildren, Sarah Blazo of Hyannis, Richard Blazo III of Portland, ME and Andrew Blazo of Beverly. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
Gerry returned to Salem in 2018, spending his final years at the Essex Condominium where he lived independently until he was hospitalized with complications from Covid-19 in early January 2024.
