Robert E. Cavanaugh Jr. Obituary
Robert E. Cavanaugh Jr., 77, of Rockport, MA, husband of Tyne (Hyry) Cavanaugh, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA. Born in Gloucester, MA on November 10, 1945, Robert was the son of Robert E. Cavanaugh Sr. and Mary "Min" (Kyrouz) Cavanaugh. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1963.
He served three years in the United States Army in Germany and Italy. In 1974 he found his niche professionally, starting a career at Gloucester Engineering in Gloucester, where he became known as "Camel". For 34 years he enjoyed every single day at work.
His hobbies included golfing, bowling, target shooting, cards and playing softball on the legendary "Steve's Landscaping" team in Rockport Men's Softball.
He was a "Jack of all Trades", always willing to help family and friends in their times of need. Leading with kindness, he was caring and compassionate to all.
Robert met the love of his life in 1962, a Rockport girl. Tyne was the one from the start. Upon his return from the Army in 1966, they picked up where they left off, ultimately getting married on April 2, 1967. They did everything together. They always found a way to be on the same page and end every day as in love as ever.
Robert's father passed away when Robert was two years old. He was raised by his mother "Min" and his uncles, whom he cherished dearly; especially his Uncle Robert Kyrouz, who was like a father to him. He adored his two "younger" sisters, Judith and Jeanne as his family was very tight knit.
Robert and Tyne had two sons, Jon and Ralph, whom he loved and supported for life. He enjoyed going to their sporting events, musical concerts, and other activities. Great joy came into his life when grandchildren arrived, four of them with very different personalities. He loved them all. As a bonus, he was lucky to have three great-grandchildren, whom he adored for the final chapter of his life.
Robert was predeceased by his father Robert "Toby" Cavanaugh Sr.; his mother Mary "Min" (Kyrouz) Cavanaugh; his sister Jeanne (Cavanaugh) LoGrande and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Robert is survived by his wife Tyne (Hyry) Cavanaugh of Rockport; his sister Judith (Cavanaugh) Bouchie of Gloucester; his son Jon Cavanaugh of Gloucester; his son Ralph Cavanaugh and wife Michelle (Gaipo) Cavanaugh of Gloucester; grandchildren Austin Cavanaugh, Allie (Cavanaugh) Mirthil, Amber Cavanaugh and Riley Cavanaugh all of Gloucester; and great-grandchildren Alia, Keegan and Bertoni Mirthil of Gloucester.
