Mary E. Brosnan Obituary
Mary E. Brosnan, 76, of Rockport MA, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Gloucester, on August 12, 1946 she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Janet (Green) Brosnan.
Mary was a Graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1964. She worked hard throughout her life and retired from the Gloucester District Court where she worked in the probation department.
In her spare time Mary loved to volunteer. She spent several hours at the Addison Gilbert Hospital Gift shop. Mary's love of Gloucester high sports teams had her volunteering in the concession booth at the football games for years. She was also a member of the Gloucester Boosters. Mary also loved her Boston sports teams -. She loved the Patriots, Celtics and the Bruins.
Mary also enjoyed bowling in her spare time and playing cribbage with her brother Dave and niece Jill - Mary was also a big supporter of the "Light up Mattos" Field fundraiser as well as campaigning to save the field. She was the Commissioner for the Cape Ann Women's Softball league that played at Mattos Field. Mary was one of the first female members of the St. Peter's Club, a proud member of the Elks, the Gloucester Fraternity Club, and the Seafood retirees. Mary attended Our Good lady of Voyage Church where she was a member of the guild.
Mary also loved to cook, sharing many recipes with friends and family especially on Facebook! She was the ultimate babysitter, whether it was for children or the many dogs she cared for in her retirement. She loved these pets and treated them like they were her own.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Helene Pomerleau and spouse Pierre LaBrie, Pierre Pomerleau and wife Louise of Quebec, Michael Brosnan, Bethany Brosnan and Jim, Jill Elwell and husband Stephen, Jeffery Santos and wife Lindsy, Sister-in-Law's Sandra Brosnan and Judith Brosnan and Brother-in-Law Martin Santos. Mary is also survived by several great nieces and nephews; Laureanne, Nellie, James, Cameron, Arianna, Kaitlyn, Melissa, Erin, Dierdre, Jackson, Adam Madruga and her special childhood friends Louise, Patti and Donna. Mary's family would also like to thank Billy Strople for always keeping an eye on her.
In addition to her parents - Mary was predeceased by her sisters Janet "Sue" Pomerleau of Quebec, Carol Santos, her brothers John "Red" Brosnan, David Brosnan, her nephew Marc Pomerleau of Quebec, and her devoted dog Freckles.
Her funeral will be held in the Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, on Thursday, September 29, at 10:00am. The burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery in Rockport, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, will be held on Wednesday, September 28, from 5:00 to 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Gloucester Fisherman's Athletic Association (GFAA) PO Box 3010, Gloucester MA 01930, Cape Ann Animal Aid 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930 or to the charity of their choice.
