Mark Hobbs McGourty Obituary
Mark Hobbs McGourty, 49, passed away on October 5, 2024, from cardiac arrest while on vacation in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Mark is survived by his father, John McGourty of Naples, Fl and his wife, Cindy and her son Brandon; his mother, Cynthia Hobbs of Sunrise, FL, his brothers, Jack McGourty of Rockport, MA and Bill McDonald of Gloucester, MA, and his ex-wife Steph McCabe of Framingham, MA. Mark was the nephew of George and Claire Hobbs of Rockport, Caroline Keaveny of Wethersfield, CT and Patrice McGourty of Northboro, MA. He is also survived by many cousins.
Mark worked for Red Hat, an IBM Company, as Email Automation Manager. He also worked in the Athletic Department of Boston College for over 25 years and was a statistician for many of BC's athletic events. At the time of his death, he was working for ESPN covering the preseason Celtics game in Abu Dhabi. Mark's passion for sports was his favorite pastime.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, October 24 at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St, Gloucester, MA 01930.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 25, at 11 am at Locust Grove Cemetery, 104 Langsford St., Gloucester, MA. The service will be followed by a celebration of life at The Gloucester House, 63 Rogers St., Gloucester, MA. Donations may be made in Mark's name to Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue Boston, MA 02115.
