He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Fitzgerald (Callahan) of Rockport; his children, Jayne Nistad of Stoughton, Jillian Fitzgerald of Canton, Jennifer LaFountain (Philip) of Hamilton and Dr. Jonathan Fitzgerald (Stephanie) of Swampscott; his grandchildren, Charles Nistad, Isabelle, Abigail, Phineas LaFountain, Penelope and John Wesley Fitzgerald; his sister Catherine Palmer (Edward) of Weymouth; his niece Dolly Hardy; and his nephew Ed Palmer.
