John Paul Goldsmith, 78, of Rockport, Massachusetts, surrounded in the loving embrace of his family, passed away in his home on July 11, 2023. John was predeceased by his best friend, partner, and wife of over 57 years, Nancy (White).
Born August 31, 1944, John grew up with his two sisters and brother in Glen Falls, New York. The son of the late Johanna Goldsmith. It was while attending Warrensburg Central School, where John met his future wife at Doc's Restaurant in Lake George, New York. John was a short order cook and Nancy was a waitress. John was hired as a draftsman apprentice for General Electric, where he worked for approximately 50 years, eventually becoming a Manufacturing Quality Engineer for their Lynn, Massachusetts' manufacturing plant.
A talented runner who competed in countless marathons over the years alongside his brother, and rival, Roy. John was the former president of the New England Pioneer Running Club in the Berkshires. "Mr. G" coached the cross country and track teams at Lenox Memorial High School in the Berkshires. An avid sports fan and season ticket holder for the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, John and his son Jeffrey were well-known faces at Gillette Stadium tailgate parties.
John and Nancy were inseparable. According to John his marriage to Nancy was a 10 out of 10. Together they rooted for the Red Sox, dined together, and traveled - they especially loved Key West, Aruba, Ogunquit and York Beach in Maine. John and Nancy loved music and Jimmy Buffett concerts were a favorite. John and Nancy and his sister Nancy and her husband Kip Moses, weren't shy about donning colorful Hawaiian shirts and congregating in the parking lot, singing songs with the other parrot heads.
John was a generous and sensitive man with a big heart. He could also be a very silly man who enjoyed playing a central role in the lives of his 9 grandchildren. Together with Nancy, they spoiled them with love and tenderness. He will be missed by all.
