George E. King Obituary
George E. King, 72, of Rockport, MA, husband of Catherine "Katie" (Sharamitaro) King, passed away in his home on Saturday, February 4, 2023. George was born in Gloucester, MA on September 29, 1950, and was the son of the late Anthony J. and Edna (Durgin) King.
George served proudly in the United States Coast Guard for 6 years during the Vietnam war, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He graduated from the EMA School – Governors Island, NY. He was the longtime owner of King Electric, working side by side with his son David. He was also the Electrical Inspector for the Town of Rockport for 35 years and was a proud member of the Rockport Fire Department for over 20 years.
George and Katie enjoyed spending time at their second home in Laconia, NH and hosting their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed classic hot rods and attending car shows with friends. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports and was a founding member of the Friends of Rockport Athletics.
He is survived by his wife Katie, to whom he was married to for 52 years. He leaves his children, Shayna LoPriore and her husband Michael of Stratham, NH, Courtney Sweet and her husband Ken of Rockport, David King and his wife Erin of Rockport.
George is survived by his 11 grandchildren: Madison and Carter Young, Grace and Tate LoPriore; Garin, Travis, Taylor and Carson Sweet; Anthony, Riley and Nolan King. He is also survived by his sisters: Carol and her husband Bill Maciel of Beverly Farms, Susan and her husband Scott Lane of Rockport, and a special brother-in-law Leo Sharamitaro of Florida, many nieces, nephews and godchildren and special family friend Bruce Lorentzen.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his in-laws Joseph and Marion (Fairweather) Sharamitaro, brother Joseph King, brother-in-law Joseph Sharamitaro.
Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. His service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home on Friday, February 10 at 10 a.m. His burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery in Rockport.
