Ellen E. Stone Obituary
Ellen Egan Stone of Annisquam, MA passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023, with her beloved husband of 64 years, William Preston Stone, by her side. She was born February 18, 1938, in Gloucester, MA to Frances Beckley & Dr. John Joseph Egan Jr. where she and her family have called home for generations.
She is survived by her loving family: her brother John Egan & his wife Janet, sister Josephine Maguire & her partner Henry Sykes, her sons, Bill & his wife Deb, Jamie, Scott & his wife Darcey, six grandchildren, and an extended multitude of beloved nephews and nieces, all of whom she treasured.
Ellen's special gift was her ability to light up a room while making you feel welcomed and loved. She had a steadfast love of family and cared deeply for her friends and her village community. She thrived in the warmth of summer on boats, at the beach, or on the courts. She was a fixture at tennis tournaments, The Sea Fair, and all her family's creative and competitive endeavors. Her keen sense of adventure took her and the family all over America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Mediterranean. But of course, her home was the village of Annisquam, and nothing trumped love of family and hearing about her loved one's lives.
Ellen graduated from Gloucester High School, and Newton College of the Sacred Heart. She was an active member in many of Annisquam's civic groups such as Good Neighbors, Annisquam Sewing Circle and The Garden Club. She was the first female Governor of the Annisquam Yacht Club and very involved with the Junior Program.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joachim Church, Rockport, MA. Following the service, the immediate family will gather at Mt. Adnah Cemetery for a private graveside service.
All are welcome to gather at the Annisquam Village Hall at 12:30 p.m. to offer support to the Stones and their extended family, to share stories of special times with such a delightful and beautiful lady. Ellen's family wants this to be a time of celebration of a life well lived and loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Annisquam Yacht Club's AYC STP, a 501 (C)(3) - tax ID # 45-199-7718 which was organized to support scholarships to the AYC Junior Program.
