Dean F. Leahy Obituary

Dean Francis Leahy, 54, of Rockport, MA., passed away peacefully after a long illness surrounded by family and friends, at Lahey hospital in Burlington, MA. He was the husband of the late Lisa M. (Theriault). Leahy with whom they shared 27 years of marriage. Dean and his twin sister Diane were born at St. Vincent hospital in Worcester, MA., on June 28, 1969, son of the late Pete and Loretta (Conigliari) Leahy of Rockport. Dean will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. Time spent with him was always filled with laughter.

Dean loved to quote from Jaws or Monty Python's Holy Grail whenever he could sneak it in. Being with his family was the most important for him, from taking trips to the Virgin Islands, the White Mountains of NH, to spending the day at the beach. Dean loved long hikes with his sons and exploring Dogtown with the family dog Finn. He cherished spending time with all his "sibs" and loads of close friends. Dean enjoyed studying history, and was a fan of all the New England sports teams. Dean's real love was golf, always following the leaderboard at all the big tournaments, and enjoyed playing as often as he could.

Dean graduated from Rockport High School in 1987 and then joined the National Guard on the GI Bill. He rose to the rank of Sergeant - Combat Engineer and then got his Bachelor of Arts degree at Salem State College. Dean spent his career in IT and was most recently employed as Manager, Network and Systems at A.W. Chesterton Company in Groveland, MA. Dean was a proud member of the volunteer Rockport Fire Department and was always ready to serve his community at a moment's notice. Dean will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dean is survived by his two sons; Nicholas and Kevin Leahy, four brothers; Mark Leahy and his wife Lisa of Gloucester, MA., Chris Leahy and his wife Juanita of Coatesville, PA., Shawn Leahy of Philadelphia, PA., and James Milne of Beverly, MA., two sisters; Diane Leahy of Quincy, MA., and Theresa Milne of Rockport MA., nephew; Alex Leahy of Gloucester, MA., and Sister-in-law Michelle Theriault of Rowley, MA. A graveside service will be held at Beech Grove Cemetery, 90 Pleasant Street, Rockport, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 12 p.m.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Cape Ann Savings Bank, C/O The Leahy Children's Fund, 109 Main Street, Gloucester, MA., 01930 Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
