Bayard David Waring Obituary

Bayard David Waring, 92, of Rockport, MA passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his wife of 67 years, Beatrice B. (Shopp) Waring, and family. Bayard was born in Melrose Ma to the late Lloyd and Ruth Waring. He attended Phillips Andover Academy then Harvard University, where he played varsity lacrosse and graduated with a degree in Political Science. From 1951-1954, he was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, where he fought in the Korean War as a Navigator / Bombardier with the 13th Bomb Squadron-- "The B-26 Invaders". After getting out of the Air Force, he started his career with positions in sales, consulting, and management, culminating in owning his own restaurant, the Spinning Wheel Inn in Redding Ridge, CT. After moving to Rockport MA in 1979, he worked as President Reagan's New England representative for the Department of Education. He then became the Co-Managing Trustee and Chief Investment Officer of the Amelia Peabody Foundation, a position he held for 27 years.

Bayard had a variety of interests. He was fundamental in the formation and a lifelong supporter of the Waring School in Beverly Mass. He enjoyed swimming year-round in the cold waters of Rockport with his family, cutting and splitting wood for his fireplace, participating in challenging political discussions, reading periodicals and novels, backyard volleyball games with family and holiday get-togethers in Rockport. He was the number one fan of his children's, grandchildren's, and great- grandchildren's sporting events, plays and concerts.

Bayard was the consummate host in his home. He made everyone he met feel special. He was an empathetic and compassionate man who genuinely cared about other people. He believed we all should work together to make our communities and country better places to live for everyone. In
business, politics and community service he was known for his honesty, generosity, integrity and wisdom. His humor and laugh were legendary.

Bayard is survived by four daughters and husbands, Kim and Bill Wright of Rowley MA, Laurie and Jay Kelly of Exeter, NH, Myalisa Waring of Rockport, and Wendy Waring and John Hillner of New York City. He is also survived by Grandchildren, Lindsey and Tim Corrigan, Allison and Brian Naldony, David Somer and Dawn Ebbling, Bryan and Elizabeth Kelly, James and Sarah Wright, Brad and Maryssa Kelly, Debra and Brandon Freedman, Nicholas Kennedy, Jack Hillner, Amy and Kevin Larson, and Rocky the dog and finally, great-grandchildren, Joey, Clara, Abby, Charlie, Lucy, Elizabeth May, Carson, and Wayne; his one brother and two sisters, Philip and Josee Waring of Tampa, Florida, Faith and George Roebelen, of Suffield, Connecticut and Deborah and Richard Carlson of Rockport, Mass.

A Memorial service will be held at the Tavern on the Harbor, 30 Western Ave, Gloucester on April 9, 2022, at 12:00pm.
