He was predeceased by: his wife Carol A. Shaffer (Colwill); his son Michael Shaffer; his former wife Eleanor M. Conneely-Shaffer (Walsh); and his stepchildren, Patrick Conneely (Gina Shaffer) of Rockland and Eileen Conneely.
He is survived by: his children, James M. Shaffer Jr. (Jennifer) of Attleboro and Cheryl Probst; his grandchildren, Breanna, Jordan, Timothy, Courtney, Michael, Christopher, Steven, Nicolette and Caitlyn; his sisters, Barbara Southerland of New York and Joan Andrews of Pennsylvania; his children, Kathleen (Marty McLaughlin) of Weymouth, Maureen Conneely of Hull, Sean (Kristin Conneely) of Hull and Kevin (Ana Conneely) of Uxbridge; and his grandchildren, Patrick Thomas, Brenna, Liam, Sean and Kathryn.
