He was predeceased by: his parents, Guilhermina Goncalves Lopes and Gaudencio Celestino Lopes; his wife Ilda Lopes; his son Jose Augusto Lopes; his grandson John Lopes; his sister Judite Lopes Fontes (Julia); his nephew Adalberto Fontes; and his niece Rute Fontes.
He is survived by: his children, Joao D. Lopes (Rita) of Scituate, Guilhermina Gomes (Milu) of Holland, Maria Gomes (Nhay) of West Bridgewater, Edgar Lopes (Isabel) of Brockton, Emanuel Lopes (Natalia) of Bridgewater, Ramiro Lopes (Sandra) of Florida and Amarildes Fonseca (Terencio) of East Providence, RI.. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, October 28th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home (165 Belmont St, Brockton, MA 02301). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 29th 2024 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, October 29th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the St. Edith Stein Church (71 E Main St, Brockton, MA 02301).
