He was predeceased by: his parents, Johanna R. McCarthy, (Woodford) and John R. McCarthy, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Margaret M. "Peggy" McCarthy (Wyse); and his sisters, Marylou, Sandra, Helen and Josephine (Richard). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
