He was predeceased by: his parents, Terrance McGovern and Emma McGovern (Sheldon); and his siblings, Martha Shaw, Marilyn Pettit, Jimmy McGovern, Mary Goddeau, Charles McGovern, Harry McGovern, Peter McGovern, Robert McGovern and Terry McGovern.
He is survived by: his wife Carol McGovern (Borletto) of Pittsfield; his sisters, Mildred Willis of Lanesborough and Margaret Wirtes of Dalton; his sons, Joseph W. McGovern (Holly) and William A. McGovern Jr. of Pittsfield; and his grandchildren, Ryleigh A. McGovern of Pittsfield, Joseph A. McGovern of Pittsfield and Averie M. McGovern of Adams.
