He was predeceased by: his parents, Stella Smegal Kowalczyk and Anthony Kowalczyk; his siblings, William Kowalczyk, Joseph Kowalczyk and Edna Van Valkenburg; his son John Joseph Kowalczyk; and his grandsons, James Plankey and John Michael Kowalczyk.
He is survived by: his wife Roberta "Bobbie" Kowalczyk of Pittsfield; his children, Karyl Kowalczyk, Richard Kowalczyk (Marcia) and Robert Kowalczyk (Karen); and his grandchildren, Rick Kowalczyk (Beth), Samantha Kowalczyk (Kyla), Elizabeth Shaw (Austin), Andrew Kowalczyk (Nikki), Kevin Kowalczyk Kayla Kowalczyk (Aleixa), Derek Chretien (Elle) and Tyler Chretien (Haley). He is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
