Anthony J. Rizzo Jr. Obituary
Anthony J. Rizzo, Jr., of Pittsfield, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, January 31, 2022. Born in Pittsfield on February 12, 1943, the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Ricci) Rizzo, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1960.
Tony was a well-known businessman in Berkshire County. His greatest professional accomplishment was realized when he opened Bobby Hudpucker's. Tony was an accomplished chef who loved cooking and created many delicious Italian dishes, which he fondly named after many family members.
Tony was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married the former Margaret Lavelle on April 27, 1963. Together they created a beautiful family. Tony and Peggy spent countless hours on playing fields throughout Berkshire County, cheering on their children. Tony was later able to take pride in watching his grandsons play golf for Pittsfield High.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Tony's laughter and sense of humor made him the life of the party. He often served as master chef at family dinners and backyard barbecues .
He leaves his wife, Margaret, son, Michael Rizzo (Susan), of California as well as two daughters, Michelle Martin (Mark), and Christine Carroll, both of Pittsfield. He is survived by several grandchildren, Nicholas and Justin Martin, Megan Carroll, Ryan and Kylie Rizzo of California, and Antonia Rizzo and Jailyn Cabrera, as well as two sisters, Mary Baer of Pittsfield and Barbara Mooney (Patrick) of Rhode Island. Tony leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his daughter in-law, Lisa Rizzo. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Rizzo (Lisa).
Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Anthony J. Rizzo, Jr. will be Tuesday, February 8, 2022, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, Pastor Emeritus of St. Charles Church. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the service from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201. Due to the recent rise in Covid cases, to best ensure everybody's health, all who attend these services are required to wear a face mask. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony's memory can be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the American Cancer Society in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
