Gerald Rockett Obituary
Gerald "Jerry" Rockett of Pembroke passed away at home early Tuesday morning May 7th, surrounded by his wife and children. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen, son Michael Rockett and fiance Andreah MacDonald and children Tegan and Avery, daughter Beth and Sean Sullivan and grandchildren Emery, Conor, and Colin. Jerry is survived by his sister Rosemary Richards and brothers David, Fred, and Patrick Rockett. He is predeceased by his brother John. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and lifelong friends who loved him dearly.
Jerry had a 38 year career at Carney Hospital in Dorchester; he was the ultimate apprentice, beginning his career in the housekeeping department and ending it as Radiology Director. He earned credentials all along the way in x-ray, CT scan, and special procedures. After his time at Carney Hospital, he worked at Good Samaritan Medical Center as CT section chief for 5 years and, upon retirement, he stayed on as a per-diem CT tech. Jerry loved his work. He also loved traveling with his wife Helen and was an avid golfer. He was part of a close group of friends that played together for over 30 years.
Known fondly as "Papa" to his grandchildren, Jerry loved giving them rides on his tractor and cheering them on at all their activities. He always made sure to carry dollar bills to buy special treats at the vending machines, and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of them.
In 2007, Jerry received the gift of life, a kidney from his brother Dave, which enabled him to enjoy many more years of golf and create more memories with his family and friends. In honoring Jerry's wishes, no funeral or wake will be held.
