He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Gearty and Margaret Gearty; and his brother Joseph Gearty. He is survived by: his children, Erin Poirier (Andy), Kathleen Ehrlinger (Scot), Peter Gearty, Jr. and Alaina Gearty (Stephen Cahillane); his granddaughters, Lily and Elise Poirier; and his siblings, Paul Gearty of Norwood, Martha Griffin (Chris) of Norwood, Patrick Gearty (Maureen) of Norwood, Daniel Gearty (Robyn) of Norwood, Brendan Gearty (Sharon) of Arizona, Margaret Osborne (Chris), Brian Gearty (Cyprina) of Norwood and Jonathan Gearty (Debbie) of Connecticut. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews.
