He was predeceased by: his parents, George Chapelle and Margaret La Chapelle (Fitzgerald); his friend Jerome Alexander; his brother Bing; his sister-in-law Judy La Chapelle; his brother Denis La Chapelle; and his wife Patricia La Chapelle (Whalen).
He is survived by: his children, Mayor Nicole La Chapelle of Easthampton and Christian La Chapelle (Martha Leamy) of Holyoke; his grandchildren, Sigrid, Wendel of New York City, Cameron La Chapelle of New York City and Cade La Chapelle of Holyoke; and his friends, Donna O'Connor (late Michael O'Connor) and Carol Bevan Bogart.
In place of flowers, John Allan wished that donations be made in his memory to Loreto and Broderick Houses, 51 Hamilton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040, to support the good work of those in recovery.
