He was predeceased by: his parents, Irwin T. Brakey and Dorothy Brakey (Nuttelman); his wife Lois Hebert Brakey; his brother Donald; and his daughter-in-law Dianne.
He is survived by: his children, Joe Brakey, Leonard Brakey, David, Tammy Brakey and Lynn Brakey; his friend Rose McCoy; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Michele, Sarah, Joseph, Elizabeth, Alex, David, Trevor and Logan; and his great grandchildren, Carter, Sophia, Julien, Arlo and Everly. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
