He was predeceased by: his parents, Layfayette Hendrix and Annie Mae Hendrix (Elrod); his wife Beatrice K. Hendrix; and his siblings, Walter Ohma Hendrix, Carolyn Ruth Hagans and Addie Leona Brown.

He is survived by: his children, James H. Hendrix, Jr. (Sharon) of Atlanta, Georgia, Jean H. Noonan (Peter) of Weston, Massachusetts and Melissa B. Hendrix of Chicago, Illinois; and his grandsons, James F. Noonan II, Peter C. Noonan, Jr., Patrick J. Noonan and John G. Noonan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New England Baptist Hospital, Joslin Diabetes Center, or The Carter Center.
