He was predeceased by: his former wife Mary Shanahan Carruth. He is survived by: his wife Sheila Carruth; his children, William (Bill), Catharine (Katie), Maureen, Anastasia (Stacy) and Rachel; his grandchildren, Stephen, Ben, Brian, Will, Henry, Charlie, Reina, Medhanit and Shiferaw; and his sister Patricia Carruth Tully.
