He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Silverstein and Anna Silverstein (Rubin); his wife Jean Harriet Silverstein (Goodwin); his son David Silverstein; and his brother Bernard.

He is survived by: his brother Louis (Bonnie); and his children, Lois (Merrill) and Stephen Silverstein (Judy). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren 1 great-granddaughter.

A funeral service was held on Friday, November 15th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Tifereth Israel Congregation (145 Brownell Ave, New Bedford, MA 02740). A burial was held on Friday, November 15th 2024 at the Plainville Cemetery (1400 Old Plainville Rd, North Dartmouth, MA 02747). A shiva was held on Saturday, November 16th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Silverstein Residence (130 Clarendon St, Dartmouth, MA 02747).

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's memory may be made to the Harry and Anna Silverstein Fund through Tifereth Israel.
