He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph A. Bessette and Evelyn Bessette (Pepin); and his siblings, Antoinette McDonald, Joseph Bessette, Andrew Bessette, Rita Guisti, Theresa Daley and Charles "Buzzy" Bessette.

He is survived by: his wife Rosemary Bessette (Ottley); his children, Robert Bessette (Diane), Rosemary Bessette Downing (Terence Downing) of East Taunton, MA, Richard Gerard Bessette (Janet) of Medway, MA, Raymond Joseph Bessette (Sharon) of Hubbardston, MA and Roger William Bessette (Ruby) of San Pedro, CA; his sister Adele Quintiliani of Weymouth, MA; and his sisters-in-law, Nancy Bessette of Randolph, MA and Catherine Fitzgerald of Brockton, MA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.
