She was predeceased by: her parents, Francis DeMiglio and Elizabeth DeMiglio (Curran); and her son Michael J. Whelan. She is survived by: her husband Michael Whelan; her son Sean Whelan (Jessica Porter) of Walpole; her grandchildren, Charlie, Travis, Scarlett and Jameson; and her sisters, Maureen, Patricia, Elizabeth and Clare.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanne's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
