He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Walter F. Murphy and Catherine Marie O'Neil Murphy; his siblings, Katherine Cotter-Giblin, Lynnfield, Wellesley, William Murphy of Sudbury, Sheila Assetta and Malden; his cousin James Murphy (Joyce, Stoneham); his sibling-in-law Elaine Murphy; and his nieces and nephews, William Murphy Jr. (Laurie, Andover), Scott Murphy (Karen, Dedham), Susan Shain, Mark Murphy (Carolyn, Canton), Glen Murphy (Audrey, Sudbury), David Cotter (Karen), Lisa Porro (Gary, Malden) and Guy Assetta (Susan).

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
