He was predeceased by: his siblings, Marie Carey, Jane (Carey) of Maine and Edward Carey. He is survived by: his wife Margaret C. (Blaney); his children, Deborah A. Smith (Daniel P. Smith) of Plymouth, James P. Carey (Sherri L. Best) and Joseph J. Carey (Kelly E. Carey) of Plymouth; and his sister Patricia A. Bowles (William J. Bowles) of Rockland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
