He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Donovan and Dorothy L. Donovan of Melrose, MA.; and his brother William L. Donovan (Elizabeth). He is survived by: his wife Judith E. Donovan (Ranlett); his sons, Ronald J. Donovan, Jr. (Cathy) of Swampscott, MA and Jeffrey T. Donovan (Julie) of Londonderry, NH.; his grandchildren, Jake Donovan (Kelly) of North Andover, MA, Leia Donovan of Concord, NH and Jack Donovan of Orlando, FL; and his great grandchildren, Owen and Elliot Donovan of North Andover, MA..
