He was predeceased by: his sister Eleanor Smith; and his parents, Ralph Nelson and Arline Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Doris Nelson; his children, Carla Tucker (Bob) of Medway and Glenn Nelson (Joyce) of Spencer; his grandchildren, Joshua Tucker (Lisa), Justin Tucker (Jess), Jordan Tucker (Kara), Shane Nelson (Giana), Hillary Nelson (Jose), Erica Adix (Michael) and Elias Nelson; and his siblings, Frederick Nelson of Hampton, Esther Poulsen and Doris Councilman.
