He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia M. (Dwyer); his son Jeffrey T. Melanson; and his sister Marie White. He is survived by: his children, Joanne Melanson (Richard Mederos) of Salem, Stephen E. Melanson II (Diane) of Medford and Brian W. Melanson of Medford; his grandchildren, Danny, Brendan, Ashley, Lauren and Samantha; his great grandchildren, Nolan and Tristan; and his sister Theresa Martin of New Mexico. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
